How to Organize Your Sewing Space Like a Pro

Apr 03, 2025

A cluttered sewing space can make any project feel overwhelming. But with a few simple adjustments, you can turn your space into a functional, inspiring, and efficient sewing area.

Step 1: Keep Fabric Where You Can See It

If your fabric is stuffed in bins or drawers, you might forget what you have! Use open shelving or fabric organizers to keep fabric visible and easy to access.

📌 Try this: Use cube shelving to neatly store fabric or projects-in-progress.

Step 2: Use Foam Boards for Fabric Storage

Instead of stacking fabric in piles, use foam boards to wrap fabric around. This keeps pieces upright and easy to sort.

Step 3: Over-the-Door Storage for Supplies

I use this over-the-door ribbon shelf for ribbons, stabilizers, and even fabric scraps. It’s a great way to maximize space.

Step 4: Create an Easy-to-Access Cutting and Sewing Station

Your cutting, ironing, and sewing areas should be set up in a way that allows for easy movement between them. A folding table or rolling cart can be a great way to keep things flexible.

Step 5: Organize Your Small Supplies

Drawer dividers, clear bins, and pegboards help keep everything in its place, so you don’t waste time searching for scissors, rotary cutters, or bobbins.
